Indians post third straight win on Senior Day
The win is PV’s second straight shutout
Every team needs to have players who step up in in big moments, even if that person may normally be more of a role player.
For Pascack Valley, that player was sophomore Charlie Looes, who scored a special teams touchdown after he recovered a blocked punt and had an interception in PV’s 47-0 blowout win against Cliffside Park at home.
“It feels great, I’m just happy I could help them out,”Looes said
The Indians were dominant in all facets of the game, racking up 35 points in the first half, en route to their third straight win and second consecutive shutout win to improve to 3-5 on the year.
The game, which was senior day for the Indians, marked PV’s second consecutive shutout, the first time such an instance has occurred since 2012.
The seniors played a big part in the win, and all of the other games, and head coach Len Cusumano, who’s been with PV for nine years, has seen these seniors grow.
“Our seniors have done a great job over the course of the past four years, in maintaining the Valley attitude and Valley tough attitude,” he said.
PV jumped out to an early 7-0 lead on a touchdown by senior running back Matt Urrea. From there, PV kept its foot on the accelerator.
When halftime came around, the score was 35-0 PV, and at that point the Indians opted to go with their second string players, but it didn’t matter, as the second stringers proved they were able to contribute.
Many of the starters hardly played after halftime but even still, the Indians played physical, stayed disciplined, and executed their gameplan, especially on defense.
Phil Wong and Austin Piorkowski each finished the game with 1.5 sacks, and Piorkowski forced a fumble.
The second half saw quarterback Sam Cassidy, running back Rob Arloro and other second string players contribute, as both scored rushing touchdowns.
