The 2025 NFL draft will begin on Thursday, April 24, 2025 and end on Saturday, April 26, 2025. This year, the draft will take place at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin. This field is the home stadium of the Green Bay Packers.
For the first time in NFL Draft history, every team has ownership of their own first round pick. There were no trades for first round picks this year prior to April, and there are still yet to be any. This season is a highly anticipated draft, as there are tons of generational prospects coming out of college this year.
The NFL draft occurs once a year, typically in late April. This creates time for the players who get drafted to learn their offensive/defensive scheme, as well as get to know everyone on their team and their facilities well before the season starts in early September.
In the draft, there are seven rounds. Every team gets one pick in each round. The order of the draft depends on your record from the following season. The teams with the worst records get to pick first, with the Super Bowl champion picking last. The order is the same in every round and this will stay that way unless teams trade their picks for other picks, or other players who are already in the league. Sometimes, teams will try to trade up in the draft to try to get a player who is a desired need for their team.
This year, the first five picks are as follows:
- Titans 2. Browns 3. Giants 4. Patriots 5. Jaguars
The top prospects in the draft are:
Cam Ward, QB, Miami
Shedeur Sanders, QB, Colorado
Travis Hunter, WR/CB, Colorado
Abdul Carter, Edge, Penn State
Mason Graham, DT, Michigan
Ashton Jeanty, RB, Boise State
Tetairoa McMillan, WR, Arizona
Will Campbell, OT, LSU
Tyler Warren, TE, Penn State
Matthew Golden, WR, Texas
This draft is one of the most highly anticipated ones in recent years. The NFL is continuing to get more and more competitive every year, and younger and better players continue to join the league.
I think that this season will be one of the best ones yet. With all these young stars entering the NFL, there will be many more exciting games and plays and a lot more action.
