Alexander, or better yet known as AJ throughout Pascack Valley, has gained a reputation of being one of the best runners on the team. After running for six years, AJ has broken multiple school records, and is looked up to as a leader of the team.
Coach Murtaugh had nothing but positive things to say. “I have had the distinct pleasure of watching AJ evolve from a skinny little freshman to a nationally ranked track athlete. He has taken a significant leadership roll on our team and has added the success of our record breaking Distance Medley Relay this season.”
Although AJ describes his track experience as a challenge, he has enjoyed the challenge and recognizes that track has taught him what hard work and consistency really means.
“Something people don’t know about track is that it will stick with you for the rest of your life. Coach Murtaugh instilled that statement in me, and my favorite part about the sport is doing better than what you expected yourself.”
Next year, AJ plans to run Division III Track for Santa Barbara City College.
Murtaugh said, “As with many of my three-season runners, I spend almost everyday with them. These athletes are a constant presence in my life, and AJ is no exception. I have gotten to know him very well these past four years, and his departure will truly be felt.”
This past weekend, AJ placed 4th in the 400m, and 3rd place in the boys 800m for the Bergen County Meet. AJ will be one of the nine runners from PV competing at the Bergen County Meet of Champions, this Friday at Hackensack High School, running the 800m.
