Athlete of the Week: Colin Dedrick
Week: February 22-26
Sport: Basketball
Grade: Senior
Position: Forward
The lowdown: Dedrick has been a senior leader on the court all season for Valley. He combines his multitalented offensive game with a major presence in the paint on the defensive end. This was shown in PV’s matchup against St. Anthony’s, a top team in the country and the #1 team in New Jersey. Despite a difficult loss, Dedrick blocked 12 shots in a dominating performance.
Coach’s comment: “Colin means everything to our team for a number of reasons. He is so versatile, and his contributions extend far beyond the physical for us. He is basically a coach on the floor, whether it is reading the game or telling people where they need to be at all times, it is an invaluable resource to have on the floor. He is a true leader in every sense of the word.” -Al Coleman
What he likes most about basketball: “All you need is five guys, a ball, and a court to play a pickup game whenever you want. It’s not as structured as sports like football.”
Favorite movie: Mad Max: Fury Road
Favorite music artist: Fetty Wap
Favorite teacher: Mr. Sarajian
Favorite food: Any kind of Pizza, especially Ray’s Pizza in Hillsdale
Four people he’d like to invite to a dinner party: Donald Trump (entrepreneur/presidential candidate), Cam Newton (NFL quarterback), Kendrick Lamar (rapper), Ellen DeGeneres (TV personality)
Future plans: “I want to go to college, get a Bachelor’s degree, and maybe get a Master’s. It depends on what I study. I’ll be successful at whatever I put my mind to.”
