Athlete Of The Week: Greg Zoll
Senior running back stepped up in a big way in PV’s first win.
Name: Greg Zoll
Sport: Football
Grade: Senior
Position: Running Back
The Lowdown: Zoll had his best career game last week against Nutley, as he ran for 2 touchdowns and 234 yards. His performance was especially meaningful since it was hist best game since returning from a torn ACL. He was out of action for nearly a year with the injury, and his rehab included three days of physical therapy as well as working with PV trainer Bill Reger twice a week. It was a long road to recovery for Zoll, but he worked very hard to return and his efforts on Saturday proved that he had come all the way back.
Coach’s Comment: “Greg Zoll did a great job stepping up for some of the guys that were out.” – Len Cusumano
What He Likes Most About His Sport: “I think the whole team aspect of football. In basketball, one player can really dictate the outcome of a game, and one pitcher in baseball he can really be lights out and the game is over. But in football, its 11 players working together at a high level with a high chemistry to be sucessful. I think it’s unique, you don’t really get that team aspect in any other sport.”
Best Sport Memory: In his first varsity game as a sophomore, when PV beat Hackensack, a team that was two groups higher than them. Zoll remembers this back and forth contest fondly, as Valley scored with about one minute left and then the PV defense got a fourth down stop shortly after to win the game. He said, “That was one of the most exciting games I’ve ever witnessed and I’d say that it was a very good start to my varsity career.”
Best Thing About PV: “The community aspect. I have a great group of friends, and even people that are not directly in my group of friends, everyone is friendly with eachother. I don’t think there are ever any problems with people getting into fights or anything. We just have a really good community here, we support and we love eachother. I think it’s unique with regards to every other high school with the how the student bodies kind of comes together.”
