Athlete of the Week: Jeff Roberts
Week: January 11th-15th
Sport: Winter Track
Grade: Junior
Events: 1600 meter, 1000 meter, 800 meter
The lowdown: Jeff is a three-sport varsity athlete here at Pascack Valley, running Cross Country, Winter Track, and Spring Track. While he doesn’t hold any specific titles for Winter Track, he holds the school record from last spring, for the distance medley and the 4 by 1600 record.
Coach’s comment: “As a junior, Jeff is doing some incredible things. You really have to love running for this sport, and he truly does. He’s found another gear, and for a coach to see that is very promising, especially because he’s coming off an injury from Cross Country.”
What he loves most about running: “The aspect of getting better every time you train, and improving myself is what I love the most. Competing and beating personal records is just as great.”
Who he looks up to: “I would have to say that I look up to my good friend, Evan Jones. He’s always pushing me to do better, and his work ethic is awesome.”
Four people he’d invite to a dinner party: Evan Jones (Smoke Signal sports writer), Robert Saul (Smoke Signal sports writer), John Murtaugh (teacher at PV), and Jim Kennedy (teacher at PV).
Future plans: “I hope to compete and do well in the New Balance Nationals later this season, but in the future, I hope to run Division 1 in college.”
Jaimie Smith graduated in 2016.
