Julia Spadafino is the Athlete of the Week for The Smoke Signal. Spadafino is off to a hot start this year for the PV Softball team.

Name: Julia Spadafino

Sport: Softball

Grade: Junior

Position: Outfield and Pitcher

The Lowdown: Spadafino plays right field and pitcher for the Pascack Valley softball team, where she has played varsity since her freshman year. In the Indians’ first five games, Spadafino has gotten off to a hot start. She hit .500, with 2 singles, 3 doubles, and a home run in those games.

What She Likes Most About Her Sport: The team aspect of softball. “Just being around your friends all the time and bonding over something that we love.”

Best Sport Memory:

Proudest Moment on the Field: She believes that all three of her years on the team have been proud moments. “Just playing with my team, and just getting progressively better and improving as a team and bonding with everyone” have been proud moments for Julia.

Best Thing About PV: She likes how “everyone is friends with everyone”. She also likes the kindness of the teachers and coaches.

Why Did She Stick With Softball and Stop Soccer:

Spadafino’s sister, senior Elizabeth Spadafino, played soccer for Pascack Valley and was honored as The Smoke Signal’s Athlete of the Week in September.

Favorite Subject: History. She has Mr. Sarajian for history and “he just makes things more interesting” and makes her “want to learn.”

Favorite Season: Fall. Her birthday is in the fall and she also plays softball in the fall.

Favorite TV Show: “SpongeBob SquarePants”

What She Does In Her Free Time: Listens to music, watches Netflix, shops, and spends time with family and friends

Role Models: Her Mother “because she just works so hard to support our family and her kids. She just has such a big heart and I just love her for that.”

Future Plans: She wants to go to college, and have a job that has something to do with music. She also would like to play softball in college.
