This week’s athlete of the week, January 23-27, Kelly Petro.

Athlete of the Week: Kelly Petro

Name: Kelly Petro

Sport: Girls Basketball

Grade: Junior

Position: Guard

The lowdown: Petro recently verbally committed to the University Of Delaware on a basketball scholarship. She has been a key piece for a Pascack Valley team that is 16-0 on the year.

Coach’s Comment: “The thing that stands out to me about her is how graceful she is in everything she does. She’s got incredible poise, and clearly she affects a game in so many tangible and intangible ways. The tangible—she fills up the stat sheet, plays excellent defense, is unselfish, and is an excellent rebounder. The intangible—because she plays at such a high level, she’s such a calming influence on everyone else. She started as a freshman, and all of those traits are ones I saw in her back then.”-Jeff Jasper

What she likes most about her sport: “I like that it has to do a lot with team chemistry and how it’s not one player does everything.”
