Baseball suffers setbacks

Errors in the field and runners left on base spell trouble for Indians

After a big win against Hackensack, the PV baseball team faced two tough opponents: Ramsey and St. Joe’s.

PV faced off against Ramsey on Saturday, where the team lost 8-1. Missed chances were the name of the game in this one. The Indians left runners in scoring position twice.

“We just didn’t capitalize when the chances came,” said senior infielder Ron Villione.

Along with missed chances up at plate, fielding mistakes set the Indians back, as well. Of the eight runs scored by Ramsey, only three were earned runs by PV pitchers.

“We killed ourselves,” Villione said.

On Wednesday, the Indians faced a very good St. Joe’s team, losing 13-0. PV only had two hits in the loss.

There was more of the same for Indians. They had left five runners on base by the end of the third inning.

Much of the damage by Joe’s came after the fourth inning, when it was a 3-0 game. Four of the ten runs after the fourth came off of walks or errors by the Indians’ defense.

“With good teams we have to make the most of our chances,” Villione added.

The Indians record is now 5-5 on the year. They face Westwood on Thursday and OT on Friday. Both games are away, along with two home games against Bergenfield, on April 27 and Demarest on April 29.
