Julia Conjour turns her hips on a ball. Both the girls and boys soccer teams are No.3 seeds in their respective state tournaments.

Girls Soccer

The Pascack Valley Girls Soccer Team (11-5-1) is in the running for the State Sectional Title yet again this season. In last year’s tournament, the girls reached the final of the North 1, Section 2 State Tournament but fell to Sparta 4-0. Although seniors such as Alexandra Spadafino, Izzie Foreclatti, Sarah Urrea, and Ella Montopoli graduated, the team returns a large majority of its goal scoring contributors in Sr. Julia Conjour, Jr. Amanda Polyniak, and So. Celina Bussanich. In the midfield, Jr. Tara Stewart continues to hold the center down, along with Jr. Sarah Mastowski and Sr. Cam Dolan. New coach Leah Jerome has given the girls an opportunity to win the league title in their match against Teaneck tonight. Entering the tournament as a No. 3 seed, it’s safe to say that a return to the final is a possibility for the girls. They play No.14 Indian Hills at home on Wednesday at 2pm.

Tara Stewart takes a shot on Valley’s Senior Night. The girls look to make another deep run in the North 1, Group 2 state tournament.

Boys Soccer

Perhaps Pascack Valley’s most anticipated return to the state tournament this year is the Boys Soccer Team’s return to the NJSIAA State Tournament, this time in Group 2. Following last year’s “Cinderella” run to the Group 3 semifinal round, the team lost a majority of its starting lineup. Leading goal-scorer and All-State selection Michael Cammineci, midfielders Niko Bonanos and Max Van Gyzen, and center-back Dylan Criscuolo all graduated last year. However, the team returns some firepower in the form of this year’s leading-goal scorer Sr. Shane Feder and center midfielder Sr. Nolan Wasserman, who kicked in the game-winning goal against Roxbury last season to capture Valley’s first state sectional final title in program history. The team also returns last season’s integral bench piece So. Steven Gifford, who earned a starting spot this year. The backline of Valley, which consists of a senior lineup of Jimmy Shea, Adrian Pilet, Ian Hagen, and Michael Criscuolo, has conceded only 24 goals this season. Can coach Luciano Cofrancesco and his boys repeat this success in a new state group? The first test for Valley will be on Thursday, in a first round bout against Jefferson at home at 2pm.

Nolan Wasserman looks to make a play in the boys soccer game against River Dell. The boys soccer team look to continue its success from last year’s sectional title run.
