Boys soccer battles tough schedule
Pascack Valley finishes 7-10
Sport: Boys Soccer
Record: 7-10
Coach: Roy Nygren
Season Overview: As a result of the Big North Conference realigning, the Indians were faced with a tougher schedule than in years’s past. Nygren said that the Indians played a majority of the teams that finished within the top ten of North Jersey, including Cliffside Park and Ramsey.
“We had a lot of quality performances,” Nygren said. “[We] continued to battle from start to finish, without any let-up.”
This year, Valley only played each team in its league once, and that allowed the Indians to play more tough teams from other leagues. However, PV still qualified for the Bergen County Tournament and North 1, Group 3 State Tournament.
Key returnees for next season: Ryan Mastowski, Brayden Schwartz, Dallas O’Connor, Ryan Thomas, Nick Londono, Nate Dedrick, Johnny Noone
Key losses for next season: Christian Dimitry, Nico Prospero, Alex Sullivan, Aidan Raleigh, Ryan Visco, Ian Spector, Jordan Tatis, Berdj Assadourian, Sean Wertheim, Tim Dinnell
Best win of the Season: A 1-0 overtime victory over Cliffside Park on Oct. 20. Cliffside Park was the runner-up for the North 1, Group 3 title.
What to look forward to for next year: PV returns a quality group of players who have experience. Also, the PV Freshman team had solid season as it lost in the quarterfinals of the Bergen County Tournament. Nygren also knows what to expect and how to prepare for the new opponents from this season. He says that he now has a better feel for the landscape of the schedule.
