Boys swim team hopes to rely on experience despite lacking numbers
Boys team trots out seven swimmers
“The strength of the boys is that they’re all experienced swimmers,” coach Courtney Rems said. “Almost every single one of them [has been] on a club team.”
In the 2018-2019 season, the boys had 20 swimmers, while this year they are down to just seven, barely enough for a team.
“[Having just seven swimmers] makes it really challenging to have a team because each swimmer is only allowed to swim two individual events and two relay events, so it means there might be some events where we’re not able to swim,” Rems said.
The boys on the team will be swimming constantly and will have to be as strong as they can be this season. The boys haven’t been practicing as much as they usually would due to COVID, so they must rely on each other to help push through the season.
In particular, the team will look to Tyler Marzano to guide them through the season, given his experience and accomplishments in recent years.
“[Marzano] is one of our captains,” Rems said. “He’s made an appearance at the Individual State Meet of Champions, [and] he’s got a couple different records on our team.”
