Boys tennis: Bergen County Tournament
The Pascack Valley Boys Tennis team will be participating in the Bergen County Tournament this weekend (May 9th-10th) at Demarest High School in the Large Schools Tournament.
Lineup:
First Singles: Roger Zlotolow is coming off of an injury that sidelined him for the majority of this week. Zlotolow returned on Thursday for the team’s state match-up against Northern Highlands.
Second Singles: Josh Kasper was asked to play first singles again this week due to Zlotolow’s injury. He will be returning to his normal position for the tournament.
Third Singles: Alex Robinson will be playing third singles, a position that he has become accustomed to this year. Robinson steps up for the tournament because of an injury to his teammate, Austin Davis.
First Doubles: Jordan Lauber and Jay Spector have played together many times this year, and each also has some singles experience.
Second Doubles: Jeremy Collier and Ethan Zindel are both young players who have earned their playing time this year. They will be rewarded by playing in the tournament.
The team has had many players step up to play varsity this season for a variety of reasons. On Wednesday, the team took on Teaneck with a depleted lineup due to injuries, AP testing, etc. Zindel and Alex Corring, who are not varisty regulars, were asked to play first doubles. Many would consider this a tall task, and it sure was, but the boys were able to edge a victory in their game in three long sets. The duo lost the first set, but then battled back to win the next two. The last set was filled with drama, as it went into a long tiebreaker, which Zindel and Corring eventually won. These small success stories this year show that the team has young potential that only needs time and experience to prosper.
Evan Jones graduated in 2016.
