UPDATE: Woman injured in motor vehicle accident on Piermont
Just after the start of school on Monday, an elderly woman was struck on Piermont Avenue by a black pickup truck just in front of Pascack Valley High School. According to school principal Tom DeMaio, the driver of the truck was unaware of the hit and was found by investigators later on.
The woman was transported to Stonybrook by ambulance and airlifted to an area hospital’s trauma unit. Her condition is unknown at this time.
It is unknown if the vehicle or if an object hanging off the vehicle struck the pedestrian.
The school driveway was closed during the investigation forcing drivers to use the exit driveway to both enter and exit the school parking lot. It reopened around 10:30 a.m.
No students or staff were involved in the crash.
According to the Bergen Record, she is currently in critical but stable condition at Hackensack University Medical Center.
The article states, “The driver was released and was not issued any charges or motor vehicle violations; the incident is not being considered a hit and run, Detective William Diedtrich said. The driver had not realized there had been an accident, he said.”
