Pascack Period Tour: “Cars! Cars! Cars!”

(Editor’s note: This is the first installment of our “Pascack Period Tour” series designed to give our readers a taste of the array of offerings during Pascack Period this year.)

Students are revving up their engines in “Cars! Cars! Cars!”, a Pascack Period class run by PV’s Director of Instructional Technology, Mr. Paul Zeller.

Zeller decided to teach this course because he has always been interested in the concept of cars and enjoys preparing his students for what they will need to know in their future years of adulthood.

“I will be buying a car in a few years and I decided I wanted to learn what goes where in a car,” said William Morris, a sophomore in the class.

This class usually takes place in Room 224 during Session A of Pascack Period. Last week, however, the class went outside to polish a few cars belonging to the PV staff. Students in this class were given the opportunity to practice technique on four cars that all demonstrated different properties.

Mr. Tom DeMaio’s brand new truck was used because of its flatness, which would make it easier to practice polishing. Mrs. Mary Camporeale’s silver vehicle was needed to show the students how clean the car can get. According to Zeller, her car was “a must” since grime is most visible on silver cars.

Mr. Willie Pico’s bright red automobile was utilized to show that polish has the ability to restore the car’s original look, since the paint needed a little help. Ms. Karen Kosch’s classic Mustang demonstrates what an old car looks like if it is kept in good shape.

Even though the class just began a few weeks ago, Zeller has much planned for the upcoming year. The two weeks that have already passed have been spent learning how to properly wash and correctly polish a car. Throughout the remaining months, Zeller plans to teach the students about the wheels and windows of a vehicle, the interior, car maintenance, and how to buy and sell cars.
