Crucial meet for Pascack gymnastics
With this week comes one of the most important meets for the Pascack Regional gymnastics team. On Tuesday, October 6, the team will be traveling to face the Academy of the Holy Angels (AHA) in a dual meet with Indian Hills at Ramapo High School.
This is the only meet this week for the girls and with the county and state championships coming their way, this is a good place to gauge their performances for the more important meets of the season.
“I think if we do our best we can beat [AHA], but we really need to do our best performances of the season,” senior captain Jillian Dean said about the team.
Pascack Perspective: Coming off of its Wayne Hills Classic tournament win (score of 106.7), the team did not do as well as originally hoped against West Milford on Monday. Despite the fact that the team won the meet, its performance was not the best that has been done season. The girls look to use the West Milford meet as motivation to do better against AHA. The team is relying on Dean, junior LeAnn Drum and freshman Melissa Ricciardi to post high scores going into the meet. If all goes as planned, and the team has a near perfect performance on each apparatus, a win is within reach for Pascack.
AHA Outlook: Injury ridden AHA is just getting back into the swing of things. After having to scratch at the Wayne Hills Classic because of injury, this will be the first time the Angels will be facing Pascack. Starting as two independents in 2013, the team has grown to five solid members, enough to field a full team. The Angels have no senior members and the youthfulness can be used to their advantage. If injury is not an issue and all of the team competes on Tuesday, the win could solidify the team’s mentality for the season, especially going into the county meet.
