Crumbl opened on Friday Nov. 8th in Montvale, NJ. This is Bergen County’s second location; the first one is in Paramus.
Crumbl is an interesting place to try because every week they offer new cookie flavors. Crumbl’s desserts range from the original chocolate chip cookie to themed mini pies. Crumbl also makes its cookies fresh daily. The flavors last week were Oatmeal Skillet, Mint Mallow Sandwich, Lemon Cheesecake, Churro, Confetti, and Chocolate Chip.
Maizie’s first impressions:
The moment I opened the doors, I got hit with a blast of delicious smelling cookies. The line inside was very long, but the aesthetic inside was cute and pink. The waiting area was small, so people were pushing each other to open the door.
The setup was an open kitchen, so seeing how the cookies were made was really cool. There were many workers who were all busy making the fresh cookies. You don’t really see these open kitchen setups that often anymore because they were most popular in the 1980s, so it’s nice to see businesses trying different things. The workers were really nice and answered all my questions.
When I got the mini party box, the cookies were still warm, which was a nice surprise. The box was adorable and pink; I think the presentation of the cookies is half of the charm.
It was disappointing to learn that people with allergies cannot enjoy these cookies. They have a note posted that states: “Our products are made in an open kitchen that uses milk, egg, wheat, soy, tree nuts, and peanuts. Cross contamination is a possibility.”
Lana’s cookie ratings:
Mini Mint Mallow Sandwich: 1 out of 5
I was not a fan of the mint cookie, which had mint filling in between two cookies made with Oreos. As someone who doesn’t enjoy mint flavoring, I would not get this cookie again. Even though there was more chocolate than mint, you could still taste the mint, and it overpowered the flavor of the cookie.
Mini Lemon Cheesecake: 2/5
The Lemon Cheesecake had a very appealing look to it with a mini lemon wedge on top. This cookie had a lemony sweetness to it. The cheesecake frosting brought the whole cookie together, but overall it had too much lemon.
Mini Churro Cookie: 3/5
The Churro was definitely the sweetest of the six cookies. It had the most sugar out of last week’s menu and a total of 290 calories (for just one mini cookie!). Due to the overpowering cinnamon flavor, the Churro cookie is not in my top three. However, as someone who likes churros, the taste of this cookie came close to the real thing, which is impressive.
Mini Confetti Cookie: 4/5
The Confetti Cookie had a vanilla base and rainbow sprinkles baked into it. This cookie didn’t have as strong of a taste as the other ones, but it was still a tasty treat. For people who enjoy sweeter cookies, this cookie isn’t for you.
Mini Oatmeal Skillet: 4.5/5
I didn’t think I would enjoy this cookie because I’m not a fan of oatmeal, but you couldn’t even taste the oats; it was very tasty. I enjoyed biting into the icing in the middle with the caramel drizzle, as it brought more flavor to the cookie.
Mini Classic Chocolate Chip Cookie: 5/5
In my opinion, the Chocolate Chip Cookie is always an enjoyable classic. You never have to worry about when this cookie will come back to Crumbl’s menu since it is always on the lineup. The gooey texture right when you bite into the cookie was delicious and makes you want to dig in and have some more.
If you want to visit Crumbl’s new location in Montvale, it’s located at 100 Market Street—near The Shoppes at DePiero Farm.
