Down 10 starters, girls lacrosse looks for consistent improvement

Indians to rely on athleticism, but lack expierience and continuity

Coach: Melissa Velez (7th season)

Last Season’s Record: 12-5

Key Returners: Abby Twomey (Sr., Capt), Sam Solotar, (Jr., Capt), Adrianna Rack (Sr.), Bryanna Testino (Sr.) Ella Giambona (So.), Sienna Orlando (Jr., G)

Key Losses: Hannah Linton, Elisabeth Ralph, Jaime Bader, Dominique Perini, Jenny LaRocca, Maddy Carullo

Key Newcomers: Abby Uhl (Fr.), Mary Looes (Fr.), Sabrina Hirsh (Fr.), Giuliana Urban (Fr.)

Strength of team: Athleticism

Areas of Improvement: Playing together and a lack of experience

Outlook: This year, the team is in a rebuilding mode. PV lost ten starters, including its goalkeeper, Linton. Orlando, a junior, is stepping up as the starter, but is currently sidelined with a concussion. Lauren Morrissey, a sophomore, is filling in for her for the time being. Twomey and Solotar serve as the captains and unlike most of their teammates, they have previously played together. Uhl, Looes, Hirsch, and Urban all have done well in the team’s scrimmages, which sparks hope that they will continue their strong play.

Coach’s Comment: “Our real goal is to get better every game,” Velez said. “Everyone knows it’s going to take some time, but who knows? Sometimes there’s surprises.”
