Female Athlete of the Month: Jessica Malocha
Finishing this past swim season with a handful of first place performances for the Pascack Swim Team, Jessica Malocha had a strong junior season in her swimming career. However, she wasn’t focusing on her individual accomplishments going into the season.
“I didn’t expect much,” Malocha said. “I just wanted the team to become closer and have fun throughout the season while still working hard in the pool every day.”
Coach Courtney Rems praises Malocha’s ability to work well with her teammates and accomplish the team’s goals.
“What makes her so special is that she really has grown into the highschool sport of swimming and works well with her teammates to contribute to what they desire,” Coach Courtney Rems said about Jessica.
Malocha has always been a big swimmer. Ever since she was young, she has always found herself swimming and competing.
“My mom put me into it when I was young. She signed me up for lessons, and I really enjoyed it, so I stuck with it,” Malocha said. “Making my club’s national team was a huge goal for me… for a long time.”
Malocha is a single-sport athlete, training hard in her sport since she was young. For as long as Malocha can remember, she has always been traveling and competing.
“[With my club team] we travel sometimes, which is fun—especially with such a good group of people,” Malocha said.
Malocha also follows some of her favorite collegiate level swimming teams and takes some of their techniques into consideration.
“I don’t really follow professional swimming, but I do follow college swimming. I mainly follow Tennessee and Texas,” Malocha said.
Malocha would love to continue her swimming career at a collegiate level, but she also wants to be able to follow her dream of becoming a member of the military.
