After recently reaching 100 career strikeouts, a milestone few have been able to accomplish, Sophomore Alexandra Siller is April’s female athlete of the month.
Siller credits her teammates for helping her achieve this outstanding goal.
“I wouldn’t have been able to do it without my catcher, Cali [Dembowski],” Siller added.
Siller has led Valley to a 7-6 record this season, with a 5-2 record in the National Division.
While Siller has been successful on the mound, she also has batted well at the plate. She has a .375 batting average and 12 hits with 9 RBIs on the season. On the mound, she has a 3.00 ERA, only allowing 41 runs while having 75 strikeouts on the season.
“My favorite type of pitch to throw is a change-up,” Siller said. “I like it because it fools batters and makes my fastball look faster.”
While Siller has no pre-game ritual, she works on her pitches before the game and looks to find her groove early on.
Last season as a freshman, Siller notched 68 strikeouts, a 3.45 ERA, and only 103 runs allowed, while pitching 111.2 innings. Batting-wise, she totaled 30 hits on the season, 15 RBIs, and a .526 batting average.
Siller looks to continue improving her game every day. She wants to win the league with her team and make a good run in postseason play. As the season continues, she also wants to achieve 200 strikeouts.
