Four new members to serve the BOE
Gini Varghese, Kristin Martin, Michael Weaver, and Kelly Blundy have been elected to the Pascack Valley Regional High School District Board of Education, according to an email Superintendent Erik Gundersen sent to the district on Nov. 10.
“[Being elected to the BOE] has been exciting. I’m a little nervous because I’m hoping that we can do some great things [for the students] especially in light of what [they’ve] been through in the past two years,” Martin said. “I’m hoping we can make the seniors’ graduation wonderful and keep opening up opportunities for the underclassmen, as well.”
While Varghese and Martin have been elected to Hillsdale seats, Weaver has won a Montvale seat and Blundy to Woodcliff Lake. The four new members will take their seats on Jan. 4, 2021, at the Annual Reorganization Meeting, according to Gundersen’s email.
“My top priority is to be a thoughtful and reflective participant and ensure that all students, from all four towns, have equal access to the best educational experience we can provide,” Weaver said.
Weaver said that Gundersen sent a congratulatory email to the new members on Nov. 4. Before assuming their roles, the new members will also begin an orientation process in which they will be introduced to each school in the district, according to Varghese.
“I am definitely a people person, so [I am looking forward to] meeting the other board members and Mr. Gundersen. Also, working with the community and being able to learn what people want and learning what the students and teachers want and need,” Varghese said.
