Girls Basketball to rely on inexperience through tough schedule

The team looks to improve and develop every day in practice. The girls basketball team looks to build off of their strong 9-6 record from last year.

Coach: Jeff Jasper (49th year)

Last year’s record: 9-4

Key Newcomers: Celina Bussanich (Fr.)

“[Bussanich] is going to be amazing [on the court], but she’s still going to need to develop her game and understand how high school basketball is played. This level of basketball is much faster and physical than the level she was previously on and it’s going to take her some time to adapt,” Coach Jasper said.

Key Returners: Jules Vassallo (Sr.UMass Boston Basketball Commit) and Lindsay Jennings (Jr.)

“[Vasallo] and [Jennings] are the only two really experienced players we have, and a lot of our team’s success will rest with them,” Jasper said. “Jules [Vassallo] is sensational and will have no problems because she shoots the ball well, she gets to the rim, and she just loves the game. Lindsay [Jennings] is electrifying. Her game is still developing into a well-rounded game since she is only a junior and [she] will be taking on a much bigger role with the team than in years past.”

Strength and weakness of team: “I think we have more areas of development than we have of strength due to the lack of experience on the roster. Sabrina Hirsch and Tori Criscuolo are two other girls who will get key minutes, but none of these girls have gotten a lot of playing time in the past,” Jasper said.

Outlook on the season: “The outlook on the season is to literally get better every day,” Jasper said. We’re a young and inexperienced team with only a few players who have played key [varsity] minutes that are returning, and our difficult schedule isn’t helping us.”

Coach’s Comment: “These girls embrace hard work and play hard, and when you do that good things will happen. I’m looking forward to coaching them and watching them progress as the season goes by,” Jasper said.
