Girls earn league honors, among record-setting performances
The Pascack Valley girls swim team continued its league dominance for another year.
On January 26th, the girls’ team won their six consecutive league title. The victory was ensured by a first place finish in the 200 medley relay and strong individual performances came from Haleigh Marzano, Dani Freeman, and Cassie Freeman.
Marzano finished 3rd in both the 50 yard free and the 100 yard breaststroke. In the breaststroke, she also set a new personal best.
“We’re extremely proud that they have continued their success this season.” said Coach Courtney Farrell.
The boys team also had a successful meet, finishing in 4th place. The boys were led by senior Eli O’Connor. O’Connor won the 100 yard freestyle and 3rd in the 100 breaststroke. He also set a new record in the breaststroke.
Following the league meet, both Pascack Swim Teams participated in the Bergen County Meet of Champions.
The girls’ 200 yard medley qualified for the State Meet of Champions with a time of 1:38. Cassie Freeman broke her own personal record in a 3rd place in the 100 IM, in which her teammate Marzano grabbed 6th.
Cassie Freeman followed up her performance in the 100 IM by shattering her personal records in the 100 yard butterfly and the 100 yard breaststroke. She finished 3rd in the breaststroke, which qualifies her individually for the State Meet of Champions individually.
“We are very proud of 1st place in leagues and 4th in the county,” said Farrell of the girls’ success.
O’Connor and senior teammates Sean Kim, Jimmy Spillane, and Liam Caruth combined together to form impressive relay teams in the meet. The 200 yard medley and 400 free relay were both successful, as the 400 free relay team had a record breaking performance. O’Connor also added another record to his successful senior season in the 100 free.
