Indians have magical season, can’t get past Highlands

Sport: Girls Soccer

Record: 18-2-1

Coach: Amy Lombardo

Season Overview: The Indians beat Old Tappan twice and Demarest twice, their two biggest rivals. PV won its league and was the No. 4 seed in the Bergen County Tournament, where it advanced to the semifinals before it was knocked out by powerhouse Northern Highlands. The Indians advanced into the semifinals of the State Tournament, as well, but they fell to the Highlanders once again, ending their season.

Key Players from this Season: Nicole Franklin (Sr., D), Kelly Smith (Sr., D), Arianna Quevedo (Jr., C/Mid), Elizabeth Spadafino (Sr., F), Erin Flanagan (Sr., G), Rachel White (Sr., D), Lauren Hussey (Sr., D), Jenny LaRocca (Sr., C/Mid), Danielle Freeman (Sr., Mid) and all the other seniors.

Key Losses for Next Season: The team will lose ten seniors to graduation, including Isabella Bussanich, Lucia Sharma, Flanagan, Franklin, Freeman, Hussey, LaRocca, Smith, Spadafino, and White.

Best Win(s) of the Season: Beating Old Tappan twice. “In the past they’ve beaten us every single time so it’s the first time that we’ve really beat them twice in a season,” Lombardo said.

What to Look Forward to for Next Year: The Indians have some important returning players who will have to step up next season. “I think the seniors this year have showed them what they are capable of. We can have another good season,” Lombardo said.
