Girls soccer suffers tough county tournament loss
This past Sunday the Pascack Valley girls soccer team no. 11 (5-3-1) continued their county tournament run at home in the second round against no.6 seed River Dell (8-1-1).
The Indians were coming into this game after a tough overtime loss 1-0 against a very good Wayne Hills team (8-2). On Sunday, the girls were looking to bounce back and advance in the county tournament.
However, it would not be easy as the girls, River Dell came into this game as the no.6 seed in the Bergen County Tournament and had an 8-1-1 record.
The game proved to be tough, and remained scoreless until the last 20 minutes. Both teams scored within 5 minutes of each other. River Dell scored the first goal with 19 minutes remaining. Then Pascack Valley’s Cassidy Mazzone (Sr.) scored, off the assist by Katie Gallagher (Sr.) with 15 minutes remaining.
The Indians played a great game, and brought a very good River Dell team into overtime, but they could not hold on as River Dell scored the game-clinching goal with a minute remaining in the first overtime.
This tough loss eliminated the girls from the county tournament, leaving them with a 5-4-1 record.
This Week: The Indians upcoming opponents for this week are rival Old Tappan (7-2-2) at home on Tuesday at 4:15 pm, whom they tied against earlier this season by a score of 1-1. Then on Friday 10/16, they will have to travel to Tenafly (2-5-2) at 6:30 pm, whom they beat at home earlier this season by a score of 4-2.
