Girls soccer plans to succeed behind experienced team
Girls soccer looks to succeed behind senior class
Senior Nicole Ingannamorte kicks the ball into the open field. The girls soccer teams season begins Thursday night.
Coach: Amy Lombardo (11th year)
Last Year’s Record: 7-10
Key Returners: Sydney Ben-yishay (Sr.), Ellie Schaumberger (Sr.), Erin Kearney (Sr.), Caeleigh Reger (Sr.), Mallory Downs (Sr.)
Key Losses: Paige Skene, Sam Conjour
Key Newcomers: Amanda Polyniak (Fr.) and Sarah Mastowski (Fr.)
Strength of team:
Last year, there were several juniors, sophomores, and freshmen on the varsity team, meaning this year’s team has experience.
“[We] have a lot of returning varsity experience,” Lombardo said.
Weakness of team:
Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the team has not had much time to prepare for the upcoming season.
“We’re in the middle of a pandemic and there isn’t a lot of time to prepare for the season,” Lombardo said. “As of right now we’ve only had three practices and we start the season in a week and a half. We are all just trying to figure everything out in a short amount of time.”
Outlook:
Lombardo hopes the team can compete for the league championship this year and improve throughout the season.
