Girls soccer starts strong in county tournament
The girls soccer team advances to the Round of 16
This past Sunday, the No. 11 Pascack Valley Indians (5-2-1) began their run for the Bergen County title at home against No. 22 Cliffside Park (5-3-1). The Indians were looking start the tournament strong after two tough home losses to Indian Hills (3-3-2) by a score of 1-0, and nationally ranked IHA (6-3. by a score of 4-0).
The girls were able to get the strong showing they were looking for, dominating possession and winning the game 3-0. The goals came from Arianna Quevedo (Fr.), Elizabeth Spadafino (So.), and Kelly Petro (So.) And for assists, Arianna Quevedo (Fr.), Chelsea Lee (Sr.), and Jenny LaRocca (So.) Furthermore, along with the defense, goalkeeper Gina Criscuolo (Sr.) had a stellar game.
This victory not only puts the Indians in the Round of 16, but it also puts them back on track after their two tough losses. The road will not be easy however with notable opponents such as no. 1 seeded Northern Highlands (9-0), no. 2 seeded IHA (6-3) whom they have already suffered a loss to at home, no. 4 Paramus Catholic (8-1), no. 10 Old Tappan whom they have tied against in their season opener, and no. 9. Indian Hills, whom they have also suffered a loss to at home.
This Week: The girls next game is against Wayne Hills (6-1) on Tuesday October 6 away at 4:15 pm, and their Round of 16 game in the county tournament is still yet to be determined.
