Girls soccer team off to strong start

Pascack Valley girls soccer is off to a start that no one saw coming. The team is 4-0-1 against tough division opponents.

The Indians’ first game was at Old Tappan on a rainy thursday afternoon. They put up a tough fight against the Golden Knights holding them to one goal in the game, and resulted in a 1-1 tie, with freshman Ariana Quevedo scoring that lone goal for the Indians in her first varsity start.

Then on September 12, the girls took command in their home opener win against Tenafly 4-2. Senior Katie Gallagher scored two goals, sophomore Kelly Petro scored a goal, and freshman Ariana Quevedo added another goal and an assist. Senior Ana Beyer and sophomore Elizabeth Spadafino also had one assist each.

In the team’s third game the Indians traveled to Bergenfield. PV erupted with a 7-0 shutout over the Bears on their home field. In the game, Spadafino and fellow sophomore Dani Freeman had two goals each, Gallagher added two goals more and an assist, and Petro scored a goal and had an assist. Also, junior Allie Kasper, seniors Cassidy Mazzone and Chelsea Lee all had assists, and senior goalkeeper Gina Criscuolo earned a shutout in the Indians win over Bergenfield.

On Saturday, where the team went on the road again this time to face the Norsewomen of Demarest. The Indians took Demarest into a doubleovertime thriller that ended in a Quevedo goal and a Pascack Valley Victory 1-0.

In their most recent game yesterday, the Indians began their 3 game home stand with a commanding victory over Teaneck 4-0. Goal Scorers were sophomore Jenny LaRocca, Spadafino, junior Chloe Witt, and Gallagher, who also had an assist in the winning effort.

The team’s performance has earned them the number 14 spot in a top 20 ranking of North Jersey, according to NorthJersey.com, that comes out every Wednesday.

This Week: The next two games are home for the girls soccer team. First, Friday, September 25, against Indian Hills at 7 p.m., and on Tuesday, September 29 the Indians will face a very good IHA team at 4:15 p.m.
