Hillsdale Library hosts “Tour De Noir”
“Tour de Noir” was held Thursday at the Hillsdale Public Library. Three of the four authors — Kieran Scott, Micol Ostow, and Lisa Amowitz — were there to speak. A fourth scheduled author, Elizabeth Kiem, was absent due to personal matters.
Scott, as a resident of River Vale and having hosted events at the library previously, proposed to Laura Leonard, who coordinated the event, having the “Tour de Noir” stop in. This was the last stop in the “Tour De Noir.”
“I thought it was a good chance for readers to talk to authors,” Leonard said.
Though there were not many people present, the atmosphere was lively and casual.
The three authors present started off the night with a brief synopsis of each of their books. Scott (who writes under the pseudonym Kate Brian) gave a synopsis of her book “Shadowlands,” the first book in the Shadowlands trilogy. Ostow presented her book “Amity,” based on the Amityville Horrors and written from duel points of view. Amowitz gave a summary of her new book Vision, a boy whose severe migraines may be showing him real gruesome murders. The authors then went on to read excerpts of their books.
Attendees were given the chance to ask questions. Questions ranged from “Was it hard to get published?” to “What Hogwarts House would you be in?”
The night ended with a book signing.
“I decided to join the Tour De Noir,” said Scott, “because I thought it would be a fun experience and that it would be inspiring for kids.”
Ostow said, “I was into the idea of talking with other authors. It’s more fun to have a discussion than to talk by myself.”
