Human Rights League to show documentary
On Wednesday, the Human Rights League will be showing the documentary He Named Me Malala at 7 p.m. in the lecture hall. PV students are encouraged to attend.
The film follows the life of Malala Yousafzai, an advocate for female education. While growing up in Pakistan, she did anything to ensure that girls had the right to go to school and was only a teenager when she was shot by the Taliban.
“The story of Malala Yousafzai is an important and powerful one, and it is related to many of the issues discussed in the Human Rights League,” Mrs. Diana McKenna, a PV English teacher and the advisor for the Human Rights League, said.
McKenna hopes that after watching the documentary, students will be able to see the effects of gender inequality on education.
“I hope students will get an appreciation for the value that people in other countries place on education, and the degree to which they will go to get it,” McKenna said.
The Human Rights League has been wanting to show a documentary for a while and were waiting for He Named Me Malala to be released on DVD because it is current and has high interest.
Tickets are $5 and will be sold at the door. Snacks will also be available for purchase.
