Indians boys cross country squad advances to State Group 3 Meet

The PV boys cross country team, pictured just after placing first in its league meet earlier this season. By virtue of its fifth-place finish in the North 1, Group 3 meet Saturday at Garrett Mountain in Paterson, the Indians have advanced to the State Group 3 meet in Holmdel.

The Pascack Valley Boys Cross Country team continued an historic season on Saturday qualifying for the New Jersey Group 3 Meet after coming in fifth place in the North 1, Group 3 State Sectional Meet, which many tout as the best group in the state.

The top five teams in each section, along with the top 10 individual runners in the race, advance to the State Group Meet next Saturday in Holmdel.

Leading the team was Jake Denbeaux who ran 16:52 and came in 7th place. Rounding out the top 5 was Nurlan Herberger (15th) ran a 17:13, Jeff Roberts (23rd) ran a 17:27, Chris Carcich (48th) ran a 18:03, and AJ Hall (51st) ran a 18:06.

Jake Boyle came in 52nd and Smoke Signal writer Evan Jones came in 115th.

In the girls meet, Ashley Evans (13th, 20:26), Nikki Criscuolo (36th, 21:50), and Marlo Guastella (47th, 22:21) were the top finishers for PV, which placed 11th as a team.
