Lindsay Jennings: Female Athlete of the Month

Senior girls basketball player Lindsay Jennings is a widely-respected player across northern New Jersey. Named The Bergen Record’s Athlete of the Week in December of 2022, she has
been and continues to be a leader and force on the court.

In Pascack Valley Girls Basketball’s recent Bergen County Tournament, Round of 16, win over Immaculate Conception (63-61), Jennings led the team in scoring with 22 points.

Known to be a team player, Jennings discussed her team’s efforts when asked about the girls’ recent success.

“We have been working together and talking on the court… we have been focusing on that,” Jennings said.

She also added that senior Madison McCarthy has been a great addition to the team.

“We recently got Madison McCarthy, [who transferred from Saddle River Day], which has been a great help, because she is an amazing teammate and always keeps us all going,” Jennings said.

Coach Jeff Jasper praises Linday’s leadership as a player and a person.

“She is an amazing young woman,” Jasper said. “Her basketball skills are truly remarkable. What’s most impressive about her is that she is an independent strong woman, she is extremely competitive, she has a strong value system, good core values, and she is a great teammate.”

When she was younger, Jennings was taught the game of basketball by her dad.

“I started with my dad. He taught me when I was younger, and he played in college, so it was kind of a way for him to connect with me,” Jennings said. “I’ve always looked up to him as a basketball player.”

In addition to being a senior leader on the court, she also values her teammates, appreciates their success, and helps them with their shortcomings. Jennings uses her teammates as support if she needs help on or off the court.

“I like the team aspect of basketball because you’re never alone on the court, and whenever you fall down or do something great, your teammates are always there to back you up,” Jennings said.

Through her years at Pascack Valley, Jennings’s favorite moments have been pasta dinners with her teammates.

“My favorite memories of PV basketball are of pasta parties with the team,” Jennings said. “It’s always nice to get together with my teammates the night before our game. We’re always laughing.”

Jennings takes basketball very seriously, but she also puts a great deal of work into her academics.

“Sometimes it’s pretty tough,” Jennings said. “Over time you learn to balance both by focusing on doing your work in school, and, when you’re done, focusing on your sport.”

After high school, Jennings will not play basketball in college; however, she hopes to keep the sport she loves in her life.

“I decided not to play basketball in college, but I plan to play intramural basketball wherever I go,” Jennings said.
