Midterm Schedule 2022-2023 school year
Midterms will be held during the week of Jan. 24 to Jan. 27. The schedule this year will be as follows: two periods each day, each about an hour and 55 minutes and each day is going to be a half day.
“Everyone will meet their classes during that [time]. You’re either [going to] meet [for] an assessment, or instruction as regular,” Principal John Puccio said.
Puccio said that over the past few years, the district has tried many different ways to create midterm schedules.
“We’ve tried so many different things with midterms and finals over the years,” Puccio said. “There are just so many factors that are included with the schedule, what midterms to give [and], what subject areas or content areas [the teachers should cover].”
Puccio said they always look for feedback on improving midterms through students, teachers, and alumni.
“We receive feedback from alumni just saying, since I’m in college, I’m really depending on two grades: Midterms and Finals,” Puccio said. “And, not having midterms [in high school I] didn’t have that experience.”
The decision to give students the midterm exam is up to the teacher. Teachers could assign other projects or assignments during this time as well.
“[During the period they] could be working on large projects, [or] they [could] utilize that as a benchmark for an assessment.”
Puccio said that teachers would be staying until 2:53, to allow students, if needed, to get extra help. Students have the option of staying at school after midterms to study in the library.
“Each time [we] got feedback, we tried to tweak it,” Puccio said. “We know that it’s never perfect because there are so many different variables that people want to see.”
