Museum: a comedic play that has ‘laugh-out-loud funny moments’
Pascack Valley’s Theatre Department is showcasing its fall production on Nov. 17, 18, and 19: a comedic play called Museum, written by Tina Howe.
Museum is a production that takes place on the final day of an art exhibition. During these performances, the audience will be able to watch the actors portray various kinds of people who interact with the displays which creates multiple stories in one performance.
“You’re watching 90 minutes of people interacting with the art, so it doesn’t tell one story,” PV Theatre Director Thomas Lupfer said.
According to Lupfer, this concept creates the possibility for the audience to see a multitude of different events take place.
Kelly Donlan, president of the International Thespian Society Troupe #7427, shared that her favorite part of the show “is [when] these three old ladies come through [the exhibit], and they cannot stop laughing. I’m on stage during that part and I have so much trouble not laughing.”
Lupfer described Museum as a funny play that is “really easy for an audience to understand, follow, and have a good time.”
Lupfer also said that there are some “laugh-out-loud funny moments dealing with the absurdity of modern art.”
While the theatre cast and crew are looking forward to performing their production, the department is also very excited to share the set with everyone.
“The ‘art gallery’ will be open for the audience to walk through for 45 minutes before each performance,” Lupfer said.
Due to the effects of COVID, the PV Theatre Department had a smaller cast in 2021. While they did perform last year, Donlan explains how the larger cast this year has provoked her excitement for the audience to see the upcoming show.
“After COVID, this is our second year doing in-person shows [so] it still feels new. I’m excited that people are [going] to experience art in this way again because I think it’s something that’s really important to people,” Donlan said.
