Musician of the Week: Elizabeth Liu
Elizabeth Liu is our next Musician of the Week! She is a current senior at PV and is part of the Wind Ensemble, Marching Band, Jazz Ensemble, Pit Orchestra, and Lunch choir! Elizabeth is another one of those student who brings an extreme amount of talent to the music department of PVHS.
Why did you start playing
your instrument?
I started playing my instrument [tenor saxophone] mainly because I wanted to be in jazz band. Originally when I came to the band program to PV, I played the clarinet and alto saxophone. Sophomore year comes along, and then Mr. Zajac said he wanted more low bass sounding instruments in the band, and then he sort of just gave me a tenor saxophone that I could meddle around with. I fell in love with the sound of the instrument and I have been playing it ever since.
How long have you’ve been playing?
I’ve been playing clarinet since freshmen year and tenor saxophone since sophomore year.
What musical organizations are you involved in?
I’m involved in Mrs. Safari’s lunch choir but have only been singing for about one year. I’ve been in just about every instrumental group that PV has to offer – Pit Orchestra, Jazz Band, Wind Ensemble, Concert Band, and Symphonic Band. I’ve also had the honor to be selected for the Macy’s Great American Marching Band this past Thanksgiving. I am also involved in the Tri – M Music Honor Society here at school and have been a part of it since my junior year.
Do you enjoy playing your instrument?
I am planning to go into Music Education for college to try and become a music teacher, so I guess you could say that I enjoy singing and playing.
Fun facts:
Pascack Valley High School Alumni Mr. Daniel Pasquale is my private teacher for saxophone and has been since I was a sophomore here.
Other interests besides music:
Honestly I love books and movies, but prefer books. I also love spending time with my friends and family as well. But my main hobbies are playing and listening to music.
Chandni Shah graduated in 2018.
