Musician of the Week: Eric Stigliano
There are many talented musicians here at Pascack Valley that work hard everyday to achieve goals in their music careers. Therefore, to honor and recognize these wonderfully dedicated musicians, The Smoke Signal has decided to start weekly articles about one student that has greatly contributed to the music department of this school.
Eric Stigliano, a current senior at Pascack Valley High School, is part of the Marching Band as well as the Tri-M Honors Society.
Why did you start playing your instrument?
When I was 5, my grandmother wanted to teach me how to play the piano. We have a lot of piano players in my family, so she really pushed for this. I tried learning for about a year or so, but I soon gave up because I just had no drive to practice or will to continue exercises. Around the summer between 3rd and 4th grade, my great Uncle, who is a trumpet player, had me try to play a note on the trumpet. Because it came so easily to me, my uncle suggested to my parents to sign me up for lessons at school. Mr. Schuck, the music teacher at George White, taught the fourth grade class at Meadowbrook Elementary as well. I started lessons with him in fourth grade and I’ve been playing ever since.
Will you continue playing music after high school?
I was interested in music from a very young age, so my uncle giving me an opportunity to play an instrument was just amazing to me. I’ve stuck with it because I really enjoy playing. Because I will be attending the University of Maryland in the fall, I hope to become a part of their Marching Band to continue my musical journey.
What other instruments do you play?
I started playing guitar in 8th grade with getting some small lessons from my cousin, but because of time conflicts between our schedules, I soon dropped the lessons and continued to learn guitar on my own (with the help of some YouTube videos). Also, I am currently working on building/fixing up a guitar. The guitar is a Les Paul shape. I bought the electronics for it and wired it myself. I am currently 3D printing pieces such as the pick-guard and control cavity covers because it’s hard to find parts that are the right size.
What musical organizations are you part of?
I am a member of the Tri-M Honors Society (Modern Music Masters). I’ve played trumpet and guitar for a number of events with them and I have enjoyed every minute of it. Also, I am currently in a cover band called Poor Man’s Orchestra. I am the front man, rhythm guitarist and trumpet player for the band. We generally do classic rock, alternative rock and jazz covers.
What other interests do you have besides music?
Besides music, I have a huge interest in technology. I am hoping to come out of the University of Maryland with a degree in Computer or Electrical Engineering and work for a company to produce electronics for instruments such as pedals, amps, pickups, etc.
Chandni Shah graduated in 2018.

Can we just take a moment to acknowledge how awesome this is?
Nice work, Eric!
