Navajo-Hopi Indians share their experiences and opinions
The Board of Education approved the decision to remove the Pascack Valley Indian mascot and nickname in June. Stan Bindell is a New Jersey native and a retired journalism teacher for Hopi High School of the Navajo-Hopi Reservation in Arizona. He heard about our situation through the national journalism community and reached out to our advisor Bill Rawson. With the help of Bindell, we connected with several of his former Native American students to gain insight on their thoughts about Native American imagery, including our former Indian mascot, as well as their experiences on the reservation.
