Since the new year has rolled around, it’s the perfect time to get rid of your old clothes! Instead of throwing out the clothes you don’t wear or continuing to let them sit in your closet, here is a list of five places you can donate your clothes to.
The Salvation Army is an evangelical organization dedicated to helping those in need. Much of their work is made possible through donations. You can donate goods such as clothes to the Salvation Army in order to contribute to funding rehabilitation programs. To donate clothes, schedule a free pickup or drop them off at one of their drop-off locations (3 Memorial Drive Montvale, NJ, 07645, 2 Marginal Road Paramus, NJ, 07652, 448 New Milford Ave Oradell, NJ, 07649) or thrift stores (31 Van Houten St Paterson, NJ, 07505).
2. Goodwill
Goodwill is a well-known nonprofit that people turn to when needing to donate any items. Goodwill will accept gently used clothing that is clean, so make sure that they have no stains, odors, rips, tears, or pilling. There are multiple ways to get your clothes to Goodwill: drop them off at a Goodwill store (130 NY-59, Nanuet, NY 10954), put them in a Goodwill donation bin (20-05 Saddle River Road Fair Lawn, NJ 07410 or 1 W Jockish Square City Hall Paramus, NJ 07652), or pay for Goodwill’s pickup service ReSupply to have someone come to your home to pick up your donations.
3. Vietnam Veterans of America
Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) is an organization that provides support for Vietnam Veterans. This organization resells donated clothing to use the profit towards the following services for veterans: health care, counseling and recovery, housing assistance, and community engagement. Scheduleapickup.com is the service of VVA that you can use to schedule a free pickup of your donated clothes.
4. Lupus Foundation of America
The Lupus Foundation of America works towards researching more about Lupus and supporting those who have Lupus as part of their mission to fight against this disease. You can donate your clothes to this cause by scheduling a free pick-up on their website.
5. United Breast Cancer Foundation
The United Breast Cancer Foundation serves people with breast cancer. Your donations help them fund their programs in which they are able to give grants to hospitals, community centers, and more. You can easily schedule online a time for someone to pick up your donation box of gently used clothing from your house.
