Pascack Valley Reacts to Ray Rice video

On Monday afternoon, TMZ released video of what happened inside the elevator in the now closed Revel Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City between former Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice and his then-fiancée, now-wife Janay Palmer.

.

Soon after the video was released, the Ravens released him and the NFL suspended him indefinitely, possibly ending Rice’s NFL career.

Originally, the NFL suspended Rice for two games. The suspension was widely criticized by not only sports fans, but also the general population, saying that it was not a long enough punishment. In August, the NFL released a new domestic violence policy. The new policy includes a six-game suspension for the first offense and a lifetime ban for a repeat offender.

This week, students at Pascack Valley reacted to the news.

“He should’ve been suspended for at least a year from the start.” — Junior Melanie Hendel.

“They (the NFL) should’ve suspended him more than two games from the start. I agree with an indefinite suspension.” — Junior Nick Brugnoli.

“It (the video) was disturbing. I respect the Ravens decision to take no part in criminal action.” — Junior Alec Reynolds

“What Ray Rice’s wife went through was unfortunate and completely disturbing. Ray Rice should receive extreme penalties for this.” — Junior Bianca McLean.

“The NFL took the right amount of time by not making a real decision and suspending him for the first few weeks of the season and coming out with a new suspension.” — Sophomore Jon Dinnell

“In today’s society the suspension was only given so the NFL could look good.” — Junior Josh Cohn

“He deserved what he got as for the suspension, but he shouldn’t be kicked out of football forever. They should use it as a ploy to get him help.” — Junior Janine Warner.
