Pascack Valley Regional Swim Preview

During a time of uncertainty, not being able to practice regularly brings a huge challenge to the Pascack Regional Swim Team. 

“We are practicing in a pool that’s very shallow,” Head Coach Courtney Rems said. “We are practicing at LifeTime this year so as great as it is to be practicing locally, we are unable to practice our starts.”

The only opportunity the swimmers have to try and prepare their starts is right before their meets and during their own time if they swim for a club team.

“By not having the whole team together and not being able to practice our relay starts we’re only going to be able to practice those right before our swim meets,” Rems said. 

The Pascack Regional Swim Team has 34 members, and have been practicing in cohorts due to rules allowing a maximum of 20 people in the pool at a time.

“Usually our expectations are that we’re going to place really well in the county’s, place high at our league championship meet, and be a strong contender at the state tournament, but there is none of that this year,” Rems said. 

Obviously, this year isn’t normal considering that there will only be five meets and nothing more for the team. Rems has always had certain expectations for her team, but this year her hopes are just to have a chance to compete

“My only hope is that the seniors get some sort of a season because it’s already been really disappointing that we have 13 seniors on the team, and this isn’t the season they deserve to go out with.”

Even though this is an odd season, the team was still able to make significant additions.

“We gained more than enough freshmen and we’ve also gained another junior,” Rems said.
