Fall has finally arrived…and that means pumpkins, leaves, and a cool breeze. When you think of fall, what’s the first word that comes to mind?
Here at Pascack Valley High School, the beginning of fall means something slightly different to everyone. Whether it has a positive connotation or a negative one, let’s find out how our classmates view this special time of year!
According to multiple sources, fall generally reminds people of spending time with their families and enjoying the shifting weather. However, the feelings are mixed about whether fall is the best of the four seasons.
When asked to rank the four seasons, one being the best and four the worst, there were two kinds of people.
First, half of the interviewees expressed that fall was their favorite. Their reasons included holidays like Halloween and Thanksgiving. Additionally, they enjoy spending time baking with family, as well as the slight chill in the air.
Second, there were the students who ranked summer as their number one. These people would rather spend time with their friends while not having to worry about schoolwork.
I believe that feelings associated with certain times of the year are based on your memories, whether you realize it or not. Memories shape how you view things, and they shape your likes and dislikes. Some people even associate colors with different days of the week or subjects in school.
When asked to describe what color they associated with fall, all of the interviewees responded similarly. The responses included colors describing the foliage during the season like red, yellow, orange, and brown. These colors appear everywhere this time of year: in the trees, on the ground, and also in the most popular food items.
Pumpkin Spice is widely known for being included in fall dishes and desserts. When the interviewees were asked what they thought about this essential fall flavor, the results varied. Once again, there were two types of people.
Half of the students said no, they didn’t like Pumpkin Spice.
“Too many people use it [during fall], and it’s too overhyped,” a sophomore said.
“Personally, no [I don’t like pumpkin spice]…because it’s too much,” a student said. “I get sick of it so fast.”
On the contrary, the other half of the students expressed their love for Pumpkin Spice. One student said it was her favorite thing about fall because it reminds her of family time and gives her a cozy feeling.
Pumpkin Spice is one of the many flavors PV students enjoy during this time of year. Other flavors include apple cider donuts, pumpkin pie, and turkey.
How do your opinions compare to the ones of these PV students?
Go outside, appreciate all the colors, and spend time with family or friends. When was the last time you took a deep breath and appreciated the beauty that surrounds you?
Whatever your “fall favorite” is, let’s make this fall our favorite one yet and enjoy everything it has to offer!
