PV football looks to take down another Group 5 school
Pascack Valley vs. Montclair
When: September 12 1 p.m.
Location: Montclair High School
Season Records:
PV: 1-0
Montclair: 0-1
Pascack Valley Perspective: After a strong start to the season in last week’s 34-29 victory over Hackensack, which included a late comeback victory for PV, the Indians are looking forward to their next opponent, Montclair. Looking back to last year, the Indians destroyed the Montclair defense 29-14, ending their 24 game win streak the Montclair Mounties were riding.
Colin Dedrick played very well last week as he went 11 for 19 in completions, threw for 163 yards with 2 TD’s and an interception. Valley’s O-line lived up to their expectations last week as they gave Dedrick enough time to get his throws off and Giambona, who had 19 carries for 77 yards and 2 TD’s, the opportunity to show off his talent. The Indians are notorious for playing hard-nose, smash-mouth football by running the ball straight up the middle, as they did last week, and will certainly continue doing that if the Indian’s have success with it.
Montclair’s View: Coming straight out of a heartbreaker to Neshiminy, a school from Pennsylvania, and the fact that the Indians broke the Mountie’s 24 game win streak last season, Montclair comes into this game with a big chip on its shoulder. This week’s matchup has been one of the most important games for Montclair and the Mounties are seeking revenge. Montclair came up short last week when it was needed the most and did not score any points in the 4th quarter, allowing Neshiminy to squeeze out a victory. It will be very interesting to see how Montclair performs in the clutch this week, because PV is the best when the clock is almost out.
Key Matchups:
The Valley Defense Vs. Montclair Running Backs: Last week Valley had huge success in shutting down Hackensack’s star running back Justin Marin to only 3 yards on 12 carries. This is an incredible achievement for the Valley defense as Marin rushed for over 1,000 yards last year. If this kind of performance carries into this week, Montclair is going to have all sorts of issues when it comes to running the ball.
Valley Wide Receivers VS. Montclair’s Secondary: Valley had a lot of success throwing the ball last week, and this will play a huge factor in Saturday’s matchup if this play continues. However, if Montclair’s D-Backs play well, Valley will have some major problems, as Dedrick threw 1 interception last week.
Last Week’s Beast of the Week award goes to Joe Williams. Congratulations to Joe on a job-well-done! Keep it up!
