DePaul Ranking: No. 3 in North Jersey (Bergen Record); No. 9 in NJ (Star-Ledger); No. 5 in NJ (MaxPreps)
Lowdown on DePaul: DePaul has one of the best running backs in the state, Kareem Walker. In two games, the 6-foot, 190-pounder has 342 yards and 4 touchdowns, and he is ranked by some recruiting services as the No. 1 running back and a top 5 player in the nation among juniors. The Spartans compete in the brutal Big North, United Division against state and national powers St. Joseph (Mont.), Bergen Catholic, Paramus Catholic, and Don Bosco Prep. They close out their regular-season schedule with consecutive games against those four division rivals.
The PV Perspective: Will the Indians be able to maintain their potent offensive attack that used both the run and the pass against Montclair? The offensive line will have to keep playing up to the standards that were set against Montclair as well. The key for Valley on defense will be containing Walker from breaking any big plays and forcing DePaul to beat the defense by throwing the ball.
Key Matchups: Kareem Walker vs. PV run defense. The PV defense was led by linebackers Rocco Swatek and Greg Collier, who recorded eight and seven tackles, respectively, in the team’s first game against Montclair.
Colin Dedrick vs. DePaul secondary. DePaul has three INT’s in its first two games, while Dedrick had three passing TD’s in PV’s first game against Montclair.
