PV Lid On project spreads awareness of prescription drug abuse

In some cases, prescription drugs can be used as painkillers, but oftentimes teens and college students have a different intention when it comes to these drugs. These addictive drugs are said to help focus and increase success rates with schoolwork, however, what people don’t know is how harmful and addictive they can really be.

PV Lid On is a project students in Mr. Matthew Morone’s 2nd period sophomore English class created. It’s about spreading awareness of prescription drug abuse and helping to educate students and parents on the dangers of these little pills.

Their campaign slogan, “Lock it up or drop it off,” is displaying two alternative options to using prescription drugs. “Lock it up” means that parents who own these drugs can lock up the medication someplace that teens can’t get to. “Drop it off” means that there are safe places to drop off drugs, such as in a drop-box outside police stations, so the drugs will get disposed of properly. This way, there are no lingering harmful drugs in homes, left in the reach of teenagers.

The students in the class explained that they chose this topic for their project by first voting between two different options.

Nick DiBari, a sophomore in the class, said, “It was a good cause because not a lot of people know about it.”

Another student explained how people think it is safer since they are given to a person by a doctor, and how in a lot of ways the internet has aided prescription drug abuse.

PV Lid On also made a short documentary on the subject. Watch it below:
