PV Litmag to Host “Lit Out Loud”
Creative poetry, music, and art to be showcased at annual event
Whether it be a painting, an original song, or an excerpt from a recently written short story, all art is welcome at the PV Literature and Arts Magazine’s annual fundraising event, “Lit Out Loud.” The event is in the style of a coffeehouse performance night, and it will be taking place on Thursday at 7 p.m. in the cafeteria.
The Literature and Arts Magazine, or the “LitMag,” is PV’s magazine for all things art. It features poetry, short stories, and original artwork. However, participants in Litmag are not only limited to written and/or art material in their printed magazine or website, Outside In.
LOL gives the opportunity for participants to show all types of art, including acts with sound. Not only can the audience enjoy the cafeteria decorated with original artwork by PV students, but they can also kick back and listen to all types of music, poetry, readings, and other acts performed on stage.
Rima Kaddouh, the Editor in Chief of Outside In, encourages those interested to participate with their own original work.
“We have Calvin Rezen’s music up there currently, but he’s the only one, so we do want to get more music and original pieces,” Kaddouh said. All music and speaking acts are welcome at the coffeehouse- last year had hits such as instrumentals, stand-up comedy, and covers of songs.
Mr. Matthew Morone, the advisor of the Litmag saw an opportunity to use LOL as an event to display any art that may or may not typically be featured in the magazine’s publication.
“In the past, we just had the lit magazine,” Morone said. “So, for a whole lot of time during the school year, not a lot of people saw the talent of people who don’t usually submit to the Litmag. It really gives us the luxury of celebrating artists whose work doesn’t necessarily translate as well just to the page.”
If you wish to submit an application to participate, send an email to [email protected] and include what you want to perform, any equipment needed, and a copy (or recording) of your entry.
