Despite the suspension of virtual days, the district plans to continue to innovate in virtual instruction.

PV student shares virtual day experience

Although my first virtual school day on Tuesday did consist of a lot of napping and binge watching shows on Netflix, I still had some work to do. To begin the day, I woke up at 8 a.m., rolled out of bed to brush my teeth, grabbed a bite to eat, and then got straight back into bed and pulled open my laptop.

Actually starting my virtual day on Tuesday was pretty simple. My first class that I had an assignment for was Algebra 2 with Trigonometry. I needed to go onto Canvas to sign in for attendance purposes, and then I was supposed to go on an interactive website called explorelearning.com, from where I copied notes into a packet.

After Algebra, I took an Italian vocab quiz on quia.com, and then completed six small activities relating to a song I was required to listen to.

Afterwards, my physical education class gave me a choice: I could either demonstrate that I did some form of physical activity that day or write a one page essay about a video that was given to me. Personally, I took a picture of my treadmill, said that I ran for 20 minutes, and submitted that to Canvas.

My final class of the day was English. Our English curriculum this year is based on an open classroom, so I needed to check in with my teacher through and audio or video recording. I recorded myself using Quicktime explaining what I was working on during the hour that was dedicated to English at home, and how this would contribute to my personal plan for February.

On Wednesday, the workload was pretty much the same as Tuesday.

First period I had financial literacy where I completed a questionnaire about myself and answered discussion questions about an article I had to read.

After financial literacy, I had history, which was the only synchronous class I had throughout both virtual days. This means I needed to sign into todaysmeet.com between 8:55 a.m. and 9 a.m. and watch an 8 minute video. Then, I had to comment on a live discussion my opinions about the video while responding to other students’ comments.

Finally, my last period class was chemistry where I was required to read an article, answer about 7 questions pertaining to the article, and answer a question in a discussion forum. All of this needed to be completed before 12 p.m.

Overall, my virtual days were not too stressful, and it was pretty simple to complete all of my assignments by their deadlines.
