PV track team looks to develop talent

Indians currently lack depth, hope to see more commitment

Coach: Al Cann

Key Returners: Andrew Demboski (Sr.), Brianna Jacobson (Sr.), Andrew Martinez (Jr.), Beibhinn O’Reilly (Jr.), John Edwards (Sr.), Jessica Ruback (Sr.), Ally Sumereau (Sr.), Katherine Sandt (Sr.), Sam Conjour (Jr.), Craig Moorehead (Jr.)

Key Losses: Melissa Purcell, Sam Pitowsky, James Pfeifer

Key Newcomers: Julianna Mullaney (Fr.), Jessie Ricco (Fr.), Zana Dukaj (Fr.)

Strength of the Team: “We have a lot of people, we are starting to develop some consistency in the program,” Cann said. “We have a lot of kids, a lot of enthusiastic throwers, a lot of numbers, that’s our strength and we hope we can build off that.”

Weakness of the Team: Cann said that the team needs to develop more people and that the team doesn’t have a lot of depth

“We’re not deep, we have to develop more and more people to fill in,” he said. “We have to see what we have, that’s why we’re encouraging putting people in different events, see who can do multiple things. We might stumble onto something where someone might show some promise that we didn’t expect, that’s kind of what we’re looking for.”

Teams Goals: Cann said he wants the students who take part in the track to be motivated and committed to the team.

“We want the athletes on the team to prioritize track,” he said. “We realize that… school obviously comes first, but we want people to be at practice and be at meets without having to go visit this person or do club sports. That’s one of the things that I think hurts our program, is that we have a lot of people who are out for track because they want to stay in shape for other sports, and they continue to play those sports at the expense of what we’re trying to do. So if we get more and more people buying in to putting track as more of a priority, I think we’ll be healthier and I think in the long run we’ll be better.”
