PV Provide to hold Sleep Out event

Members of PV Provide prepare bagged lunches recently to aid a local shelter. The organization will be holding its Sleep Out event May 16 on the PV Football Field.

Did you know Jennifer Lopez was once homeless?

How about Steve Harvey or Halle Berry?

Mr. Matthew Morone’s fourth period Honors English 2 class has chosen homelessness — both globally and in our local area — as its topic for its non-fiction “newsroom” project. They have created PV Provide as a result.

PV Provide is inviting the PV community to its Sleep Out event, where participants will sleep in boxes out on the football field at Pascack Valley.  The boxes represent what actual homeless people sleep in. The point is not only to raise awareness and money, but to also get an idea of what it is like to be homeless. This event will take place from next Saturday, May 16 at 6 p.m. to Sunday, May 17 at 7 a.m.

PV Provide hopes to help raise awareness for causes and organizations in the area.

People do not realize how fortunate we really are and would not know how many homeless people there are,” said PV Provide member Matt Novakowski.

In addition to the Sleep Out event, PV Provide also sets up tables and stands at local stores to collect money for this cause. Recently, they had a benefit night at Mexican restaurant Blue Moon in Hillsdale.
