PVRHSD to host college fair at PV
The Pascack Valley High School District will be hosting a college fair on Oct. 17 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m with around 180 colleges in attendance. The event will be held in the old gymnasium and new gymnasium with tables set up alphabetically with the names of each college placed on high stands.
“We want our students and parents to take away as much information as they deem necessary,” the District Supervisor of Guidance and School Counseling Services Sean Struncis said. “It is also an opportunity for our students to connect and ask questions that they might not be able to ask online.”
The event is shared with the Northern Valley Regional High School District since PV and PH host the fair in intervals of two years.
“We will be hosting [the fair] again next fall in 2020 and then Northern Valley will get it in 2021 to 2022,” Struncis said. “For the past 20 years, we have offered the college fair and we’ve hosted it about 10 times.”
The preparation for this year’s fair began in April of 2018. There will be 50 volunteers including executive student council members, NHS students, and other students from each grade helping at the front and gym entrances by handing out flyers with the colleges listed and directing students and parents to the select gymnasiums.
“There are two hours of madness,” Guidance Secretary Patricia Uszenski said. “It’s crazy, it’s hectic, and it’s fun.”
Uszenski said that the purpose of college fairs is to help students narrow down their college choices and gain insight by asking questions.
“Every student should come out with address labels,” Uszenski said. “This way, instead of writing an address, you can just peel it off and give it to an [admission counselor].”
