PV’s Got Talent
Choir, Tri-M Music Honor Society to virtually host community performances
Multiple trips to Disney World inspired junior Caeleigh Reger to begin designing her own ear headbands. She now has the opportunity to showcase them to students and teachers on April 6 in “Virtual Valley: Volume Up!,” Pascack Valley’s online talent show.
“A lot of people probably feel disconnected from themselves, so this will be a great way to show off talents that people may not be able to see at school,” Reger said. “It will definitely connect people in the community during this time.”
After talking to students and their parents about how they “were coping with the situation” surrounding the coronavirus, choir teacher and Tri-M Music Honor Society advisor Argine Safari came up with an idea to show off the talents of the community.
“I have also been watching a lot of videos that people post, and it really inspired me because students were really craving to show their talents,” Safari said.
The acts, ranging from playing an instrument, reading original poetry, cooking, and vlogging, had to be sent in to Safari before April 5. On April 6, a link to a playlist with YouTube videos of the participants’ acts will be sent out to the community in an email.
“[Virtual Valley: Volume Up] can really be anything you want,” said Delia Stiles, a junior and one of the hosts of the talent show. “It’s just for fun because we’re all stuck at home, so it’s a great way for everyone to be together even if we’re not actually together.”
Choir and Tri-M will reward the three videos that receive the most likes within the first two weeks of their release with Amazon gift cards: $30 for first place, $20 for second place, and $15 for third place.
“We really wanted to open this up and we’re really hoping to see a wide range of videos,” said Talia Dian, a junior and one of the hosts. “Especially since there’s no pressure and people could perform whatever they want.”
